Richard V. "Big Rich" Perez, United States Army, age 86, of Chicago's Pilsen neighborhood; cherished husband of Pauline Rosales-Perez; beloved father of Elaine; additional survivors include Juanitz Fuentes, Armando Gonzales, Rosie Torres, Gilbert Leal.
Before retiring, Rich worked as a skilled mason bricklayer in the merchant mill at Inland Steel, East Chicago, Indiana for 43 years. He was a world traveler and visited 48 of the 50 contiguous United States. He served as a mentor and father figure to many fatherless children in his neighborhood, several of which went onto to lead successful personal and professional lives. A generous soul, Rich along with his wife and daughter generously gave of their time and resources to others who came from disadvantaged homes.
Visitation Monday, May 23 beginning at 3:00 p.m. until the time of service at 7:30 p.m. at Saint Mother of Theresa of Calcutta Parish (Saint Barbara Church) 2859 S Throop Street, Chicago IL. Interment private. Information (708) 390-1200.
